What sparked your interest in the law?
I started taking political science classes as a senior in high school and had a genuine interest in all things politics, which sparked the idea of attending law school. During my sophomore year of college, I took Economics and the Law, and I will never forget my professor saying that law school changes the way you approach a problem. Even if you choose not to practice law, you’ll be uniquely prepared to analyze and resolve problems. That concept resonated with me, and I knew then that I would apply to law school.
Who’s your biggest inspiration?
As a woman and an attorney, RBG will always be one of my biggest inspirations, but I’m also inspired by my kids. They believe anything is possible, which inspires me to strive for a little bit more each day.
What’s the most interesting client issue you’ve addressed recently?
A common issue we face in every case is privilege, including the question of when documents can be withheld. Many attorneys seem to believe that the attorney-client privilege is “all or nothing,” but it is much more nuanced. I’m always surprised at how other attorneys approach the subject.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
Professionally, I am extremely proud of the breach of contract trial we won last fall. To be able to go to trial after working on the matter for over a year and secure the outcome our client deserved provided a huge sense of accomplishment and pride for our whole team.
What’s something others may not know about you?
I can play the piano—although I am a bit rusty these days!
What are your interests/passions outside of work?
Spending quality time with my husband and two kids by exploring neighboring towns and traveling together as a family. I am also an avid reader.
What’s your favorite restaurant and why?
Before we moved out of the city to head to the suburbs, we went to Monteverde in the West Loop. The food was superb (everyone should go!), but the experience meant a lot. It was a wonderful cap to nearly 15 years in Chicago and a celebration of things to come.
